Our monthly update on indicative prices for solar power systems installed in Adelaide for August 2018.
Again, pricing appears to be relatively stable. The caveat on pricing, as always, applies- if you buy a solar system based on price and price alone you risk potential issues down the line. A high quality, professionally installed solar ystem should operate reliably over a 20 to 25 year period. Risks from ‘budget basement’ solar systems generally come down to the following issues;
- Inverter failure. Cheap inverters have a poor track record of long term reliability. Adelaide has extremely hot summers and component failures can be more prone to fail in extreme temperatures. Always check solar quotations for not only the inverter warranty, but do they have a solid local distributor to support the product and what is their track record in South Australia? Does the warranty cover replacement only or does it include removing the old inverter and installing the new inverter? There are many discussions worth reading at https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum/143.
- Installation issues. The quality of the installation of the solar system if of great importance. Our view is that ‘in house’ installation – that is, the solar company employs their own CEC accredited installers, is generally (thogh not exclusively) preferable to ‘sub contract’ installers.
